Visakhapatnam Joins India’s Cruise Map

Visakhapatnam is stepping into the spotlight of India’s maritime tourism revival as Cordelia Cruises officially launches operations from the city’s International Cruise Terminal (VICT) on July 2, 2025. The move marks a pivotal moment for the east coast, positioning Visakhapatnam as a gateway for high-end coastal travel while opening new economic and experiential possibilities along the Bay of Bengal.

The VICT, developed at a cost of ₹100 crore and inaugurated in 2022, is built to handle large vessels and up to 1,800 passengers per sailing. Cordelia’s three planned itineraries from Visakhapatnam will include luxury voyages to Chennai and Puducherry, offering a three-night, four-day round-trip experience complete with upscale accommodations, fine dining, entertainment, and spa services.

This development isn’t just about adding a new cruise route—it signals a strategic shift in regional tourism. Visakhapatnam’s entry into the cruise circuit is expected to boost local businesses, drive hotel bookings, and generate employment across logistics, hospitality, and port services. The city, known for its scenic coastline and cultural heritage, now adds a premium tourism dimension that aligns with India’s broader efforts to diversify its travel offerings beyond traditional land-based itineraries.

Cordelia Cruises also has its eyes on international waters. The line is exploring future routes connecting Visakhapatnam to global destinations like Colombo, Singapore, and Malaysia, a move that could significantly elevate the city’s profile in South Asia’s cruise ecosystem. Tourism stakeholders are already urging the Andhra Pradesh government and port authorities to amplify marketing efforts to attract more global cruise lines and travelers in the coming years.

As India’s domestic cruise market gains traction, Visakhapatnam’s strategic coastal positioning and upgraded infrastructure place it at the forefront of a rising trend. With Cordelia Cruises anchoring this new chapter, the city sets sail toward becoming a premier destination for luxury coastal tourism in India and beyond.
