The tourism sector in the Balearic Islands has experienced a notable 3.1% increase in employment during January 2025, with 59,897 registered workers. This rise marks a continuation of the region’s strong recovery and underscores the importance of tourism as a central pillar of the Balearic economy. Tourism-related jobs continue to account for a significant share of the local workforce, reinforcing the sector’s vital role in the islands’ economic prosperity.

This surge in employment follows a national trend in Spain, with the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reporting a 4.1% year-over-year increase in tourism-related jobs, bringing the total to 2.62 million workers. In particular, the hospitality industry has seen a 6.1% increase in accommodation services and a 3.9% rise in food and beverage services, further demonstrating the sector’s steady recovery and growing demand.

As the high season of 2025 approaches, the Balearic tourism sector is actively recruiting to fill over 100,000 new positions. Many of these roles will be offered as permanent seasonal contracts, providing workers with greater job security. Companies are focusing their recruitment efforts on skilled labour to maintain high service standards and meet the increasing demand for tourism services.

Looking ahead, economic forecasts for 2025 remain optimistic, with a projected 4.9% increase in tourism revenue. Experts attribute this positive outlook to the stabilisation of the tourism sector, improved working conditions, and continued investments in tourism infrastructure. As Mallorca and the wider Balearic region continue to attract millions of visitors each year, the steady growth in tourism employment is expected to further bolster the islands’ global appeal and economic growth.
