Beginning May 1, 2025, Thailand will require all foreign visitors to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) prior to entry, replacing the traditional paper-based TM6 form. This initiative aims to streamline immigration procedures and enhance data collection, aligning with Thailand’s ambition to become a “Smart Tourism Destination.”
The TDAC platform is currently live, allowing travelers to pre-register online up to three days before arrival by providing personal and travel details, including passport information and accommodation addresses. This digital approach is expected to expedite the entry process for visitors arriving by air, land, or sea.
To facilitate adoption, Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has introduced multilingual promotional materials, such as instructional videos and brochures, in English, Chinese, Korean, Russian, and Japanese. This effort aims to ensure that travelers from diverse backgrounds can easily navigate the new system.
The implementation of the TDAC has led to the postponement of Thailand’s planned 300-baht ($9) tourism fee and the launch of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, both of which were initially scheduled for earlier dates. These delays reflect the government’s focus on prioritizing the digital arrival card system to enhance the overall visitor experience.
This development occurs amid challenges in Thailand’s tourism sector, including a notable decline in foreign arrivals and revenue, particularly from China and Malaysia. The recent earthquake in Myanmar has further impacted regional travel sentiment, leading to cancellations and refund options for affected travelers.
By introducing the TDAC, Thailand aims to modernize its immigration process, improve efficiency, and bolster its appeal as a forward-thinking destination for international tourists.
