Singapore is set to welcome a unique addition to its hospitality scene with the upcoming launch of Train Pod @ one-north—the country’s first train-themed boutique hotel. Bookings for the property are expected to open in the second half of 2025, offering guests the chance to stay inside a creatively repurposed train carriage.
The hotel is located at JTC’s LaunchPad in one-north and is built from a decommissioned Kawasaki-Nippon Sharyo C751B train that once operated on SMRT’s North-South and East-West lines between 2000 and 2024. Now transformed into a compact but thoughtfully designed stay, Train Pod features eight air-conditioned ensuite rooms, each outfitted with Murphy-style single bunk beds that accommodate up to two guests. Amenities such as Wi-Fi and Netflix ensure comfort, while shared facilities like an outdoor kitchen, vending machines, and a washing machine provide added convenience.
With a project cost of around S$300,000 (US$227,700), the conversion was completed in eight months and includes sustainability-driven features. For example, original train seats have been turned into park benches, giving new life to old materials while adding character to the surrounding area.
The project is the brainchild of Tiny Pod, known for its earlier shipping container hotel in the same district. Yap Eai-Sy, director of New Estates Business Development and Marketing at JTC, highlighted how LaunchPad supports experimental, entrepreneurial initiatives like this, encouraging startups to innovate in dynamic ways.
Train Pod @ one-north blends Singapore’s transportation history with creative urban design to offer a distinctly local and memorable accommodation option. As bookings prepare to launch later this year, it’s poised to become a niche favorite for both locals and international visitors seeking something truly different.
