Abu Dhabi Secures European Basketball Finals

Abu Dhabi will host European club basketball's EuroLeague Final Four in 2027 and 2029, extending a partnership that positions major sporting events as a source of visitors, hotel business and international exposure.
Euroleague Basketball and the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi announced the agreement following the emirate's first staging of the event in 2025. The 2027 tournament will be held from 28 to 30 May at the 12,000-seat Etihad Arena on Yas Island, bringing Europe's four leading clubs together for the competition's concluding matches. Details of the 2029 edition have not yet been released.
The arrangement strengthens Abu Dhabi's strategy of attracting international audiences through an established calendar of sports and entertainment. Its previous Final Four reportedly sold out quickly, with Turkish side Fenerbahce winning the title. Organisers also reported strong international broadcast and digital engagement. By securing two additional editions, tourism authorities can promote travel packages and hospitality services around dates that attract supporters, media and commercial partners. EuroLeague executives see the UAE capital as a means of extending the competition's reach beyond traditional European basketball markets. The timing also offers hotels a defined window for attracting international fans.
Hosting rights do not guarantee a particular increase in arrivals or spending, and the value to the visitor economy will depend on travelling supporters and event-related stays. However, recurring international events provide destinations with opportunities to build recognition beyond conventional sightseeing. Abu Dhabi's new agreement underscores the growing role of sports properties in competing for global leisure travel.
