Gundari, the first luxury boutique hotel on the serene island of Folegandros, is set to debut this spring, offering an exclusive alternative to the crowded streets of Santorini and Milos. This 30-room sanctuary is designed for travellers seeking peace, elegance, and a deeper connection with nature. Located on Folegandros’ southeastern coast within a protected wildlife reserve, Gundari combines modern luxury with the island’s rugged natural beauty. The name “Gundari,” meaning “rocky place,” reflects the hotel’s integration with its surroundings. Guests can expect spacious suites and villas that blend seamlessly into the environment, including three- and four-bedroom cliffside villas offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. These villas, which feature expansive indoor and outdoor spaces, private solar-powered infinity pools, and hot tubs, are perfect for guests seeking luxury and tranquillity.
Designed by Athens-based studio Block722, Gundari embraces minimalist design with unpolished marble floors and open-concept spaces that encourage seamless indoor-outdoor living. As an EarthCheck Certified property, it is committed to sustainability while maintaining a refined, grounded atmosphere. The hotel’s culinary offering centers around Orizon, a restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Lefteris Lazarou. The restaurant’s farm-to-table approach highlights fresh, local ingredients, including seafood and produce from the on-site organic farm. Guests can even pick their own vegetables and herbs for a unique dining experience. The wellness offerings include a subterranean spa, yoga, meditation, and energy healing rituals, making it the perfect place to relax and recharge.
Guests can explore the island with eco-friendly vehicles, including Fiat 500e Cabrios and e-bikes, or embark on private speedboat excursions to nearby islands. For a truly local experience, Gundari offers cooking classes with “Yia Yia” Irene, a beloved local chef. Opening on May 16, Gundari promises to deliver a luxury, sustainable, and culturally immersive escape on one of Greece’s most tranquil islands.
